What is it?
Which signs can you spot?
Tap 3 things from the list that apply â or tap "None of these" if you think it's genuine.
Know it: Staying safe and protecting yourself when using the internet and digital devices.
Example: Keeping personal details private and not clicking suspicious links.
Know it: Tricking a person (rather than hacking a computer) into giving away something, e.g. information or money.
Example: A scam email pretending to be from your bank.
Know it: A fake email or message that asks you to click a link and enter personal details, so they can be stolen â e.g. login details.
Example: An email pretending to be from your school, asking you to "verify" your password.
Know it: A fake email or message asking you to pay money up front, e.g. for a fake prize or inheritance.
Example: An email claiming you've won a competition, but you must pay a "release fee" first.
"Act now or lose access" â rushes you so you don't stop to think.
Pretending to be a boss, bank or IT team â makes you trust them.
Threatening a fine, ban or virus â scares you into acting fast.
A prize, refund or free gift â excites you about something free.
Both phishing and advance fee fraud are forms of social engineering â they trick you, not your computer. Staying safe online (e-safety) means spotting the tricks before you click, reply or pay.
